The relationship between organization as a corporation and individuals is greatly changing in recent years. The selfdirected
human resource development is a core focus of todays corporate human resource management and it has a
symbolic significance.
It is not an easy task to link the human resource strategy of corporation to individual career development and to achieve
the development of self-directed human resource. To facilitate this process, corporate university is gathering
attention as a mechanism of achieving the desired goals.
This paper will review the concept of self-directed human resource development in the changing environment of human
resource development by Japanese corporations. The current situation and issues surrounding corporate university will be
analyzed to present the possibility that corporate university can be the platform for self-directed human resource
development based on advanced cases in some leading corporations in this field. |
